rival rivals
A rival is a boss built to match your own power. It can find you as you travel
the world map, and it attacks the moment it arrives. Beating one pays zenni and
can pay tokens and crafting materials.
How it works:
- A rival can appear each time you step into an outdoor world map room: not a
city, dungeon or indoor room, and not a peaceful, no mob or arena room. Each
such step has an 8% chance.
- None appear while your Base PL is under 1,000,000, while you are suppressed,
or while you travel fast with survey.
- Once one appears, no other comes for the next 15 game hours you spend online.
When that timer runs out you see "A new rival is hunting you, looking to
measure your power!".
- It arrives with "<name> flies out of nowhere and attacks you!", and the fight
starts at once. While you fight it, players outside your group cannot join
in.
- It is sized to your Base PL, so transforming does not change the rival you
get. The higher your tier, the more resists, shields and powers it carries.
- A rival you leave alone launches into the sky and flies off after a while.
- Some rivals are raid rivals. They arrive with "The sky splits open as <name>
crashes down upon you, wreathed in a blazing aura!" and "This is no ordinary
rival.", fight with raised stats, and some of them carry a far bigger hoard
of tokens. The chance of each kind climbs with your Base PL, from 5% to 40%.
- From tier 7, while you are not grouped with another player or fused, a rival
can rise as a Nemesis: 6% at tier 7, and 2% more for each tier above. It
warns "Your nemesis has found you. Run if you must, it will hunt you down.".
- A Nemesis fights at the top of its power with even higher stats, hunts you if
you flee, and can swallow a senzu bean once when it is low, unless something
such as a daze stops it. It pays extra zenni and the biggest token hoard of
all. Only you and your own NPC followers can fight it.
- Each Nemesis you finish yourself counts: "The Nemesis falls by your hand",
and the Nemesis board keeps the score, see Leader.
- A rival's crafting materials fall to the floor when it dies.
Where you see it:
- eboss lists your rival while it lives; otherwise it says whether a new one is
on its way.
- Bosses covers the other kinds of boss.
