📋 Client Update — What's New New ▸

👤 Profile Sync — take your setup everywhere

  • Sign in with your ckmud.com website account from the new Profile button (top bar on desktop, Tools drawer on Android).
  • Push your aliases, triggers, timers, variables, custom channels, themes, settings, and plugin files to your profile. Pull them onto any other device — switch between phone and PC and keep everything.
  • You choose what transfers with simple checkboxes, and nothing ever syncs unless you press the button yourself.
  • Your character passwords are never uploaded. You can see and remove connected devices on the website under your profile.

Important: The new website is under construction — it is a revamp of the old one, and some things are still actively being built. Your profile will be exported at launch of the live website, and backend connectors will point to the new database when everything is ready. You do not have to participate if you don't want to.

🎨 Themes

  • Android now has all the desktop themes — Cyberpunk, Green & Amber VT100, Midnight Blue, Synthwave '84, Matrix Rain, Solarized, Dragon Ball, and the classic gold look. The whole app recolors: terminal, buttons, settings, tools drawer, script editor.
  • Themes are per character — each of your characters can have their own look, and it switches automatically when you change sessions.
  • Build your own theme (new, both platforms): pick ✦ Create / edit custom theme in the theme list. Four color wheels and three sliders (brightness, vibrance, glow) — watch the whole client change in real time as you drag. Export your theme as a small file and share it — it looks identical on phone and desktop.

📦 Mudlet Package Import

  • Importing a Mudlet .mpackage now just works — on desktop and Android (new "Import from Mudlet…" button in Plugins).
  • Imported packages load in SAFE mode: any bots inside can't send a single command until you arm them. Type cksafe to see and flip the switches.
  • New commands: ckaliases and cktriggers show you everything an imported package added.
  • Imported packages now survive app updates on Android (they used to disappear — sorry about that).

⚡ Performance — the freezes are dead

  • Found and fixed the bugs that froze the client during heavy combat spam, on the login screen, and after imports. The client stays responsive no matter how hard the MUD is blasting text.
  • Typing during combat spam no longer lags or locks up.

🖥 Desktop

  • New downloads come as a single zip: unzip anywhere and play — includes a Player Guide, the full User Guide, a Scripting Reference, and a ready-made plugins folder.

📌 Worth knowing

  • Scripts you build in the Tools drawer live in your settings, not as files — use Export (or the new Profile Sync) to back them up or move them to another device.
  • If you use the CK package: re-import the .mpackage once on this version to pick up all the fixes.

Fully responsive design works seamlessly on desktop and mobile devices. Powerful automation: triggers auto-execute commands on text patterns, aliases create shortcuts for complex commands, and timers schedule recurring or one-shot actions. Built-in MSDP support provides real-time character stats, vitals, and room info.

Save multiple characters on your device and pick from a character-select screen when you connect — each character auto-logs in, and your triggers, aliases, and timers are kept separately per character. Manage them anytime from the Characters button.

Download standalone saves a single self-contained file you can open straight from your computer (no website needed) — it connects to the live game over a secure connection. Re-download anytime to get the latest version.

Settings are saved to your browser and device only — use the Profile Sync in the Android/Desktop apps to carry your setup across devices.

Requirements: Android 8.0+. You will need to allow installation from unknown sources in your device settings.

Auto-Updater Disclaimer: The app includes a built-in auto-updater that periodically checks for new versions and lets you update directly from the app. Google Play Protect may flag this feature as "potentially harmful" during installation — this is a standard security warning for any app with update capabilities. The app is safe and legitimate. Click "Install anyway" to proceed.

Android 2D Client Beta

Android 8.0+ · v0.2.13-beta

Shared 2D maps, sprites, visual inventory, shops and scouter screens, powered by Android's native connection, triggers, plugins and custom dual joysticks. Includes its own illustrated character screen and 2D app icon.

Beta · under extensive development. Installs alongside the original app, with separate profiles and updates. Requires an up-to-date Android System WebView and internet to load the visual interface.

Install, update and import

Allow your browser to install the APK when Android requests it. Signed updates install over the 2D app without uninstalling. Use Check for updates on the character screen. On v0.2.0, fully close and reopen the app to see an available update.

Choose Import from original Android to transfer an existing script-export file or use website profile sync. Include Device layout in sync to bring your joysticks. Script-export files omit passwords and joystick settings. The original app stays unchanged.

Windows 2D Client Beta

Windows 10/11 · 64-bit · v0.4.1

Play the 2D client in its own desktop window, with illustrated maps, character sprites and the full desktop layout. Keep up to eight characters connected and switch between them from character tabs or the Sessions menu. Native game connections stay open while the interface reloads. Larger chat and activity text make desktop play easier to read. Maps, artwork and interface updates load directly from the server.

Windows beta. Internet required. This installer is unsigned; Windows may display an unknown-publisher warning. Install v0.4.1 once to enable native game connections and the built-in desktop updater. Saved profiles are retained.

Install and update

Run the installer to add CKMud 2D to your Windows account, desktop and Start menu. Allow about 400 MB for the app, plus space for cached artwork. It installs separately from the original Desktop Client.

The app starts in the desktop layout and saves its own character profiles on this computer. The launcher checks at startup and every five minutes. New app versions appear on character selection and in an update notice while playing. You can also use Help → Check for system updates. Downloads can run while you play; choose Install and restart when ready to close your game sessions. Maps and artwork update from ckmud.com without reinstalling. Internet is required to play.

Remove the app through Windows Installed apps. Uninstalling retains your saved profiles.
